about the weather

Kindly pardon the wonky look of the blog as I experiment with a new design. Until soon, here is a glimpse from February 2011 in Minnesota. As I was organizing photos today, I was struck by just how long ago last year feels. January blizzards last year were continuous. February finally brought some relief from difficult driving conditions and nonstop shoveling. A long walk to the lake through slush and puddles was a long winter's dream finally come true. Every day I thought about how much I loved my cozy corners of South Minneapolis and also about how it was no doubt time to move on. 

Seattle is currently gloomy and green with occasional stretches of sun. I'm hoping for more frequent and longer stretches of warmth and anticipating the arrival of...cherry blossoms. Oh, I can't wait for those.

As I type, Indigo is in his element working hard to finish the last of his magical "fortune cards" for his classmates. Wow, do I love reading the good fortunes he comes up with all on his own! The first photograph above is his lovebird print. His very own design. He and his classmates carved the stamps for the Hearts and Crafts festival at our Waldorf School. Littler ones made Valentine prints of these as a fun craft. 

Finn sends his love from behind the scenes, where he is plugged in and playing the soundrack for our Valentine's celebrations. Doilies and hearts are something he enjoys from a bit of distance these days. Understood!

how this one turned out

Using the book card technique I shared in my last post, I created this image rich collage. I chose images relevant to the story I wished to share by looking through old National Geographic magazines.

Just a few more days to get those love letters ready to go. Here's a little photo tutorial for making an eight page book card. If you begin with standard 8.5 by 11 cardstock, it will fit into an invitation size envelope for giving. You can write a letter, create a story, build a collage, or whatever strikes your fancy. Happy Valentine making!

For the last three years I have kept most of my books organized by color, especially this catch all bookshelf. I never stop loving the rainbow. It cheers me up every time I happen to take notice of it.

 

Happy Lunar New Year

Finally, I'm finishing a painting that had been put away for too long. I wasn't always sure I'd finish it. Definitely, I will. Almost there. The sun came out today, which shifted the energy here dramatically. Following a long walk in the sun, and dinner with friends, I am home cleaning up my studio and office spaces while thinking my life forward. I'm taking a lot of deep breaths today. The office and studio have been been unpacked since September, but the last of spaces in the cottage to be organized with intention. It feels good to be working on this today, and I hope to share this corner of my home soon.
